Checklist in Structural Design
Recently I make sure that checklists are not only necessary for pilots and doctors. A detailed checklist is essential for any activity that can be described by process algorithms.
In fact, I have a list of process steps and use it, but it turns out to be much more detailed and consistently tracked.
It would seem, how can I forget something I have been doing for over two decades and know thoughtfully? The reason is instant distraction. A phone call or other malfunction may disrupt your normal workflow and some items may remain unfulfilled.
The self-control mechanism worked and I found an error, but then lost 3 hours of the job for adjustment. A detailed checklist would have avoided this, and it could have been prepared in a much shorter time. And then, on an ongoing basis, in each project, refinement.
